We had talked with the man in the photograph earlier. He had a thick accent that made his English nearly unintelligible. The features of his face were oddly out of place as though they had been smeared.

From our position we could see clearly how steep the bowl was. That man will fall soon, we thought. We were sure of it. We could see by his movements that he wasn't taking things seriously, wasn't considering the wind, didn't realize how close to the edge he really was.

A few minutes after this photo was taken, the man did fall. He lost his footing on the gritty surface and slipped to his right. His head smacked on the rock, knocked him out and created a small crack in his skull. But the grit also kept him from sliding further.

We were sure he would be okay, just as sure as we were he would fall in the first place.
